William Paik is a Ph.D. candidate in rhetoric, media, and publics at Northwestern University. His current research focuses on the rhetorical and affective analysis of American right-wing humor and comedy. He also examines the use of generative artificial intelligence in humor writing among comedians. His other research interests include Asian American studies, psychoanalysis, and American right-wing rhetoric. Paik has received a Fulbright study/research award examining the Korean-language stand-up comedy scene in Seoul, South Korea and holds a B.A. in English literature and American studies from Northwestern University. 

Outside of his research Paik actively performs in Chicago's stand-up comedy scene. He was recently featured on PBS’ Stories From The Stage, and has performed at the Asian Comedy Festival in New York, The Future of Comedy Festival in Chicago, and the Milwaukee Comedy festival. He also enjoys playing rhythm games, and collecting physical media.
